Mini POS

Offline POS system: what happens when the internet drops?

A cloud POS is great until the internet goes down at lunchtime. An offline-capable POS keeps taking orders and catches up later. Here is how that works and what to check before you trust one.

⚡ In short

An offline POS saves orders on the device while the internet is down and syncs them to your account when it returns. A good one prevents duplicate orders, labels offline orders clearly, and flags anything that needs review. The Socialknocks mini POS queues orders on the device, syncs them automatically, and has a dedicated POS page with a PIN that can start with no connection after it has been set up on that device.

Why offline matters

How offline POS works

  1. The POS stores the app and your menu or products on the device.
  2. When you enter an order with no connection, it is saved in a queue on the device with a temporary order number.
  3. The receipt prints as usual.
  4. When the connection returns, queued orders sync to your account and get official numbers.

What to check in any offline POS

How the Socialknocks mini POS handles it

Orders entered without internet are saved on the device and sync automatically when it is back, using a unique client order id so a retry never creates a duplicate. Offline orders carry a temporary number and then receive the official one. Orders that conflict with changed stock or prices are flagged for review. A dedicated POS page, protected by a PIN, can start from cold with no connection after offline mode has been enabled and the data loaded on that device. See the mini POS overview.

Set it up before you need it

  1. Turn on offline POS in Receipt Settings on the device that will run the counter.
  2. Let it load your menu or products while online.
  3. Test it: switch the device to airplane mode, place a test order and print a receipt.
  4. Reconnect and confirm the order syncs once, with an official number.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Socialknocks POS work offline?

Yes. Orders queue on the device and sync automatically when the internet returns.

Can I lose orders if the internet drops?

Orders are saved on the device first, then synced. Prepare offline mode while online and test it before you rely on it.

Will syncing create duplicate orders?

No. Each queued order has a unique id, so a retried sync does not create a second copy.

Does the POS take card payments?

No. It records orders and prints receipts. Take payment the way you do now.

Does offline mode need setup?

Yes. Enable it on the device in Receipt Settings and let it load your data while online.
